Project 1073 Held In Place | Digital Project | Steampunk composition practice with restraint

Held In Place is a quiet, guided collage experience focused on composition, restraint, and noticing what happens when you slow down.

In this project, you’ll work with a curated set of 10 steampunk-inspired collage images, designed to help you create a cohesive, themed piece while practicing intentional design choices. You’ll choose from three foundational compositional structures—cantilever, vertical axis, or drift—and use that structure as a steady guide while you work.

Through gentle, deliberate steps, you’ll practice recognizing visual weight, balance, and pause—learning when to place, when to wait, and when to stop. The steampunk imagery adds narrative texture without overwhelming the lesson, making it easier to focus on structure while still creating a visually rich piece.
