Painted Accents
Project 1065 focuses on using acrylic craft paint as an accent—not a background—in collage and mixed media work.
In this Curious Collage Society skill-building project, you’ll explore how small, intentional paint marks can bring clarity, cohesion, and movement to a finished piece without overpowering the imagery beneath. Rather than filling space, the emphasis is on restraint, placement, and confidence.
You’ll practice dry brushing, dragging, and light dabbing techniques to enhance edges, soften transitions, and unify layered elements. By learning how to stop before covering too much, you’ll discover how a limited amount of paint can do more than heavy-handed application ever could.
What You’ll Explore
• Using acrylic paint sparingly on top of collage
• Dry brushing, dragging, and dabbing techniques
• Overlapping paint onto collage edges to soften transitions
• Creating cohesion through small, deliberate accents
How This Project Works
Designed as an experiment first and a finished piece second, Project 1065 teaches how restraint builds confidence. You’ll learn to observe when a piece needs just a touch more—and when leaving it alone is the strongest choice.
This project reinforces a Curious Collage Society principle: paint doesn’t need to dominate to be powerful.
